sadly we lost another member of our animal family this week. it was kind of sudden and shocking. i took the kitty in for what i thought was a minor problem and we ended up having to have him put down that same day. stupid evil cat diseases!! my consolation is that he is in a better place with no suffering. we will miss you fozzy!
i really can't complain, because on the while milo is a really good baby, and doesn't get in much trouble. this day he was on a roll though. he had just finished pulling every tissue (but one) out of the freshly opened kleenex box and was moving on to the paint pens!!
i had to get serious this summer about the reality of adding a new member to our family. mike and i decided to move our offices out of the third bedroom and turn it into a big boy room for milo.
since milo loves animals so much, i decided on a jungle/safari theme for his new room.
of course we had to include our friends the ducks, even though they aren't usually seen on an african safari.
and every safari needs a lion!!
i got kind of crafty this month and tried my hand at knitting something that was more complicated than a scarf. i swear i followed the directions, but somehow the hat i made for august was too big even for milo! he looks cute in it though!
again, hot hot hot. and poor milo was stuck with a pregnant mommy who couldn't really spend too much time out in the heat. we tried to get to the park as often as we could though!
of course we had to keep up our positive relationship with our duck friends. plus, it was a great way to clean out the pantry. ducks seem to love all kinds of slightly stale items. it seemed to me that they were particularly fond of cheerios and animal crackers.
during the summer we also discovered the funnest (i know it's not really a word) hill country activity. just 15 miles down the road we have our own honest to goodness exotic animal ranch! milo and i took the tour twice, once with stephanie and family, and once with mike. milo LOVED it.
i can't wait to go again!
well, as most of you know, we had an exceptionally hot summer this year. we were forced to come up with some creative ways to have fun while still staying cool.

milo and i invented a small wading pool, and purchased a turtle sandbox to keep ourselves in the shade and entertained.
we were also lucky enough to get to spend some sundays with dad and jodi at the escondido pool. milo became quite the floater and loved playing with the water jets that arc overhead.
now that milo is an expert walker, a whole world of adventures is open to us and before it got too hot, we were able to spend some quality time in the park.
milo also enjoys feeding the ducks and we like to pretend like they look forward to our visits.
in addition to loving the park and his duck friends, milo loves his daddy!!
our theme for 13 months was learning to walk. once milo got the idea he took off pretty quickly!
